Exodus

Exodus
Day
Day 31

"Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him." Psalm 33:8

Text: Exodus 4 : 6-9

 SIGNIFICANCE OF SIGNS

The first sign, where God turned the rod of Moses into a snake, should have been sufficient to create a deep faith! Imagine changing a rod into a real-life serpent, and then to have it returned to its original state! The power of God would be evident! Deep lessons of faith are taught through such signs!

ANOTHER AWESOME SIGN

As if the first sign was not sufficient, God gave another sign to Moses!

“Furthermore the Lord said to him,
‘Now put your hand in your bosom.’
And he put his hand in his bosom,
and when he took it out, behold,
his hand was leprous like snow.”
EXODUS 4:6

What a frightening sign that was! A normal hand one moment, a leprous hand the next! How awed Moses must be! What power the Lord must have! What if the hand stayed leprous? That would be terrible! Mercifully, the Lord spoke again to Moses.

“And He said, ‘Put your hand in your bosom again.’
So he put his hand in his bosom again,
and drew it out of his bosom, and behold,
it was restored like his other flesh.”
EXODUS 4:7

What a relief! A healthy hand to a leprous one and back again! The power of God was awesome indeed! Could Moses not trust this great and powerful Lord? Could the children of Israel not believe that the God of their father Abraham had sent Moses to lead them out of Egypt?

STRUGGLES IN FAITH ANTICIPATED

Moses was rightly concerned about the problem of unbelief in the hearts of the children of Israel. If he was struggling with his own lack of full faith, how much more would the children have to struggle with their problem of unbelief!

“Then it will be, if they do not believe you,
nor heed the message of the first sign,
that they may believe the message of the latter sign.
And it shall be, if they do not believe even these two signs,
or listen to your voice, that you shall take water
from the river and pour it on the dry land. The water
which you take from the river will become blood on the dry land.”
EXODUS 4:8-9

God knew that the children of Israel would struggle with the problem of unbelief! In anticipation of their struggles, He would provide signs to strengthen their faith!
