Exodus

Day 68

"For the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught." Proverbs 3:26

Text: Exodus 8 : 29-32

A GENTLE WORD OF WARNING

Moses was undoubtedly in his element as he spoke to Pharaoh. He grew more and more confident by the day! He may have begun with fear and trepidation with the thought of standing before Pharaoh. Those feelings were banished now forever! He was so unafraid of Pharaoh that he dared to issue a word of warning to him.

“But let Pharaoh not deal deceitfully anymore
in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.”
EXODUS 8:29F

1. The problem of deceit

Did Pharaoh think that Moses could not see through his deceitful words? He was wrong! His hardened heart was plain to see!

2. The challenge to cease and desist

What is the best way to deal with the sin of deceit? Surely, it is to cease and desist! Sin must always be renounced and repented of!

3. Obedience to the command of the Lord

Once again, Moses brought up the name of the LORD! He is to be feared. His word is to be obeyed and not dallied with!

ANOTHER EFFECTIVE PRAYER

Moses went out of Pharaoh’s court and without any fanfare made intercession.

“So Moses went out from Pharaoh and entreated the LORD.
And the LORD did according to the word of Moses.
He removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants,
and from his people. Not one remained.”
EXODUS 8:30-31

1. “Entreated the LORD”

No matter how many times the Lord may have heard and answered his prayer, Moses realized that there is only one sure way of praying effectively. He must “entreat”. He may have been seen as a powerful servant of God, but he knew that he was but a mere human being. How does a weak mortal approach God? He must learn to “entreat”.

2. “According to the word of Moses”

How gracious the Lord was to this servant of His. Imagine the Lord answering prayer “according to the word of Moses”. Every word was fulfilled as prayed for!

GOING BACK ON HIS WORD AGAIN

True to form, Pharaoh once again reneged on his word to Moses. Once again, “But Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also” (Exodus 8:32)!
