Day 17

"The likeness of the glory of the LORD"

Text: Ezekiel 1:28

THE RESPONSE OF EZEKIEL

The glory of the LORD was manifested to Ezekiel finally. His response was appropriate!

“Like the appearance of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day,
so was the appearance of the brightness all around it.
This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.
So when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard a voice of One speaking.”
Ezekiel 1:28

1. “The glory of the LORD”

a) It was compared to a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day.

i) It was gentle.

ii) It was also refreshing.

iii) It was an uplifting sight.

iv) One is reminded of the rainbow God showed to Noah after the Flood (Genesis 9).

b) There was an extra element of brightness.

i) Brightness is not usually associated with a rainbow.

ii) Brightness highlighted the glorious radiance of God.

iii) Rainbow radiance was what Ezekiel saw.

c) This was an attempt to describe the glory of the LORD.

i) It was far greater than the vision of the living creatures.

ii) It was also greater than the magnificent chariot-throne.

iii) It eclipsed the vision of the cherubim.

2. The appropriate response of Ezekiel.

a) He saw the glory of the LORD.

b) He heard the voice of God.

c) He was overwhelmed.

d) He fell on his face before the Presence of the LORD.

e) He did not have this reaction when he saw the cherubim!

f) Full prostration before the LORD is the most appropriate response.

i) There is reverence.

ii) There is awe.

iii) There is abject humility.
