"I am indeed against you"

Text: Ezekiel 13:6

PUNISHMENT FOREWARNED

The Lord God gave a noticeably clear and stern word of warning to all the false prophets! But would they heed this fearsome word of God?

“Therefore thus says the Lord God:
‘Because you have spoken nonsense and envisioned lies,
therefore I am indeed against you,’ says the Lord God.
‘My hand will be against the prophets who envision futility and who divine lies;
they shall not be in the assembly of My people,
nor be written in the record of the house of Israel,
nor shall they enter into the land of Israel.
Then you shall know that I am the Lord God.'”
Ezekiel 13:8-9

1. “Therefore”

a) This is an inferential particle.

b) The Lord gave this word only because of the pernicious ways of the false prophets.

2. “Says the Lord God”

a) This phrase was used twice:

i) At the beginning of the sentence.

ii) At the end of the sentence.

b) This was written deliberately.

i) To suggest its solemnity.

ii) That this word comes from the Lord Himself and not from Ezekiel.

3. “Because”

a) The words of the false prophets are considered “nonsense”.

b) They had done nothing but envisioned lies.

4. The mighty hand of the Lord.

a) God’s hand would be against the false prophets.

i) Who envisioned futility.

ii) Who divined lies.

b) The punishment forewarned.

i) They would not be allowed to be part of God’s assembly.

ii) Their names would not be written in the historical records of Israel.

iii) They would not enter into the land of Israel when God brings His people back to the land of Israel.

c) Then they would know and realise that He is the Lord God of Israel.
