"The wall is no more"

Text: Ezekiel 13:15

THE WALL OF JERUSALEM

Walls were of significance in ancient days. All important cities devote much time and attention to build strong walls. Cities survive or perish depending on the walls that were built.

“Thus will I accomplish My wrath on the wall
and on those who have plastered it with untempered mortar;
and I will say to you,
‘The wall is no more, nor those who plastered it,
that is, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem,
and who see visions of peace for her when there is no peace,’
says the Lord God.”
Ezekiel 13:15-16

1. Jerusalem took pride in many things:

a) Their kings

b) Their wealth

c) Their Temple

d) Their wall

2. Their confidence lay:

a) In the false prophets and their words of futility.

b) In their deluded sense of confidence in the wall of Jerusalem.

c) Foolishly they set aside their faith and hope in the LORD.

3. The false prophets.

a) They urged the people to trust in the wall.

b) The builders and repairers of the wall were to be trusted even though they used untampered mortar.

c) The LORD declared, “The wall is no more, nor those who plastered it.”

4. The words of deception.

a) These came from the false prophets.

b) They kept saying that Jerusalem would have peace.

c) The reality was the opposite. There would be “no peace!”

d) Jerusalem was destined to fall by the decretive judgment of God.
