"And I will judge you"

Text: Ezekiel 16:38

JUDGMENT FOREWARNED

The Lord warned Israel that He would judge Israel for its sins. The most heinous was that of wanton idolatrous practices!

“And I will judge you as women who break wedlock or shed blood are judged;
I will bring blood upon you in fury and jealousy.
I will also give you into their hand,
and they shall throw down your shrines and break down your high places.
They shall also strip you of your clothes,
take your beautiful jewelry, and leave you naked and bare.”
Ezekiel 16:38-39

1. The charges that would be made against Israel.

a) It would be the charge of idolatry.

i) Israel had many lovers.

ii) The nation gave itself to idolatry without restraint.

b) It would also be the charge of murder:

i) Human sacrifice

ii) Child sacrifice

2. The verdict

a) It would be an open and shut case.

b) Israel would be found guilty as charged.

3. The punishment

a) It would be with righteous fury.

b) It would be meted out with holy jealousy.

4. The chastisement of Israel

a) Israel would be delivered to the Gentile nations.

b) All the shrines and idols would be broken by their enemies.

c) All the so-called high places would be desecrated and torn down.

d) The Gentile nations would plunder Israel of its wealth.

e) The nation of Israel would lose its:

i) Rich clothes.

ii) Beautiful jewelry.

f) Israel would be become bereft of all that it once possessed.
