Text: Ezekiel 16:59

THE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN

Israel in its pride failed to understand the consequences of sinful activities. The foolishness of rejecting the Lord and embracing idolatry.

“‘You have paid for your lewdness and your abominations,’ says the Lord.
For thus says the Lord God:
‘I will deal with you as you have done,
who despised the oath by breaking the covenant.'”
Ezekiel 16:58-59

1. The sins highlighted:

a) Lewdness

i) Immorality

ii) Coarseness

b) Abominations

i) Idolatry

ii) Wicked practices like human sacrifice.

c) These affected many aspects of society and life.

i) Broken families

ii) Loss of lives

iii) Society became fragmented

iv) Corruption prevailed

v) Violence increased

2. Other sins.

a) The oath to keep God’s covenant was not kept.

b) In fact, Israel despised the oath of the covenant.

3. Consequences

a) God will have to uphold justice.

b) Israel will suffer the consequences of its many sins.

c) The nation had not even felt ashamed for all its wicked deeds.
