"You shall no longer use this proverb in Israel"

Text: Ezekiel 18:3

A WRONG PROVERB

A wrong proverb had been used for too long. The Lord banned the use of this proverb in Israel.

“‘As I live,’ says the Lord God,
‘you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel.
‘Behold, all souls are Mine;
The soul of the father
As well as the soul of the son is Mine;
The soul who sins shall die.””
Ezekiel 18:3-4

1. A command from the Lord God.

a) This was a direct word from God.

b) It was a command from Him.

c) It must be obeyed.

2. All souls belong to God individually.

a) The soul of the son.

b) The soul of the father.

3. Individual responsibility.

a) If the son sins.

i) If he does not repent.

ii) Then he would suffer the consequences.

iii) If the sin is deadly, he may suffer death.

b) If the father sins.

i) If he does not repent.

ii) Then he would suffer the consequences.

iii) If the sin is deadly, he may suffer death.

4. This command was given:

a) To counter the wrong proverbial saying.

b) To right that which was wrong.

c) To curb further sinning.
