"The same Spirit."

Text: 1 Corinthians 12:4

AN IMPORTANT EMPHASIS ON UNITY

The wisdom that God gave to the Apostle Paul was truly amazing. He could discern matters in great depth. He also knew how to address matters effectively.

“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.
And there are diversities of activities,
but it is the same God who works all in all.”
1 Corinthians 12:4-6

1. A precious insight

a) The Spirit of God is mentioned.

b) The Lord must refer to none other than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.

c) Then we have the LORD God mentioned too.

2. A special construction

a) We have a special grammatical construction here.

b) The third person is here constructed in such a way that it is correctly translated “the same”.

c) Paul was emphasising that though The Triune Godhead was at work in different capacities, there was perfect harmony and oneness among them.

d) No one in the Godhead is above the other. All are “the same”.

3. Diversities

Paul wisely noted the differences and he highlighted them.

a) Gifts

b) Ministries

c) Activities

4. The same

There is great significance in the use of this grammatical construction “the same”.

a) To prevent anyone promoting one Person of the Godhead above another.

b) To encourage thinking of The Triune Godhead in operation in everything.

c) There is no schism in the Godhead but perfect oneness.

d) In like manner, there must be no schism in the church due to erroneous teaching.
