"Through the Spirit..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 12:8

SOME GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Graciously, the Lord has given wonderful spiritual gifts to His children. The Holy Spirit is the One through whom the gifts are given. What are some of the gifts that were given?

“For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit,
to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,
to another faith by the same Spirit,
to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,
to another the working of miracles,
to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits,
to another different kinds of tongues,
to another the interpretation of tongues.”
1 Corinthians 12:8-10

1. The prepositions “through” and “by”

a) Two prepositions were used.

i) Through

ii) By

b) Is there any significant difference between the two prepositions?

i) In a word, “No!”

ii) Both prepositions indicate “agency”.

iii) They emphasise that these gifts come from God but the Spirit of God is the Agent.

This list is not exhaustive. Romans 12:6-8 and Ephesians 4:11 also describe gifts.
