Genesis
"He spoke and it was done; He commanded and it stood fast" Psalm 33:9
Text: Genesis 1 : 3 - 31
APPRECIATING THE CREATION OF THE EARTH
“By faith we understand” how it is possible for God to create the heavens and the earth in six days! Instead of seeing ourselves become embattled over issues that could never be settled, no matter how many tomes may be written (for and against), let us choose to ponder over what the Lord created and how He made provision for their sustenance.
Day One Creation of Light (Darkness was already there) Genesis 1:3-5
Day Two Creation of a Firmament or Heaven
(Sky and waters separated) Genesis 1:6-8
Day Three Land and Seas; vegetation Genesis 1:9-13
Day Four Sun, moon and stars
(To govern the day/night and seasons) Genesis 1:14-19
Day Five Fish and birds Genesis 1:20-22
Day Six Animals; Man and Woman
(To look after God’s creation) Genesis 1:23-31
“AND GOD SAW THAT IT WAS GOOD” Genesis 1:10, 12, 18, 21, 25
It is most interesting to note that God inspected His own handiwork, and took delight in what He created. Does it sound strange that God took delight in His own creation? Is He not teaching us how to appreciate what He has created? Let us consider the words of one Benjamin Zuckerman, professor of astronomy at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He noted, in an article written in the journal “Nature”, an important factor that contributes to the Earth’s ability to sustain life.
“Jupiter, the next neighbor to earth after Mars, is a gaseous planet,
with a mass that is 318 times greater than that of Earth and thus
a much greater gravitational pull. It is that gravitational force that
benefits Earth. When massive objects that could do great harm
to our planet hurl through our solar system, Jupiter acts as a sort of
a vacuum cleaner, sucking comets and asteroids into itself or
causing them to veer away from Earth. Without Jupiter,
Earth would be a sitting duck.”
We should take a good hard look at God’s creation once again. May we echo humbly and agree heartily that what God has created is indeed “GOOD”!
“AND GOD BLESSED…” Genesis 1:22
Not only did God carefully and beautifully create the heavens and the earth, He added His personal blessing on all the creatures He made. Because of His blessings, all creatures on earth have been able to be fruitful and to multiply.
Not only have we, all too often, taken Creation for granted, we have also not taken time to appreciate God’s Providence! (Take time to read Psalm 104 where the psalmist, with awe and wonder, reflected on God’s Role in Providing for His creatures!)
