Genesis
Day
Day 73

"Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!" Psalm 27:14

Text: Genesis 15:1-21

SUSTAINED INTERACTION

God loves interaction with His children! He likes to see them raise questions to Him. He is not upset or offended when His children seek to understand His Word better. He will sustain interaction with everyone of His children. To Abram’s question, God gave a ready reply.

“And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying,
‘This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come
from your own body shall be your heir.’
Then He brought him outside and said, ‘Look now toward heaven,
and count the stars if you are able to number them.’ And He said
to him, ‘So shall your descendants be.'”

GENESIS 15:4-5

1. A Direct Reply to a Direct Question

God’s reply was as direct as Abram’s query! However, His direct reply needs to be further fathomed.

2. No elaboration, only Reiteration

God did not elaborate on when Abram would have his offspring. He only reiterated His promise that his descendants would be as many as the stars. To create an even greater impact, God brought Abram to where he could see the starry skies! Could Abram number the stars in the sky? NO? Neither would he be able to number the descendants that would be his!

3. The unspoken question of “Faith in God”

There was an unspoken, though obvious question! Could Abram understand God and believe in all that He had said? God had repeated Himself a number of times now! Could Abram bring himself to fully believe?

THE FAITH OF ABRAM

The following text reveals that Abram had a strong and sturdy faith in God and His Word.

“And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him
for righteousness.”

GENESIS 15:6

1. “And he believed in the Lord”

Abram believed in God with all his heart! This great God had spoken to him! How could he not believe? God was pleased with his faith!

2. “He accounted it to him for righteousness”

God was pleased with Abram’s faith in Him. God imputed “righteousness” to him. He acknowledged Abram as a man of faith and righteousness!
