Genesis
"When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained..." Psalm 8:3
Text: Genesis 2 : 1 - 25
HOW EXTENSIVE IS THE UNIVERSE GOD CREATED?
Let us consider the following statement found in the article, “The Milky Way Galaxy“:
“The Milky Way is the galaxy which is the home of
our Solar System together with at least 200 billion other stars
(More recent estimates have given numbers around 400 billion).
and their planets, and thousands of clusters and nebulae…
As a galaxy, the Milky Way is actually a giant, as its mass is
probably between 750 billion and one trillion solar masses,
and its diameter is about 100,000 light years…”
Many challenging thoughts must come to mind as we take time to reflect on the creation of the universe. It would take God to create the universe! Faith is not illogical at all! It is inconceivable that the universe would have just come about without a Creator!
THE CARE OF THE UNIVERSE
The Book of Job gives us an important insight as to God’s involvement and care of the universe.
“Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades,
Or loose the belt of Orion?
Can you bring out Mazzaroth in its season?
Or can you guide the Great Bear with its cubs?
Do you know the ordinances of the heavens?
Can you set their dominion over the earth?”JOB 38:31-33
These are obvious stellar constellations. God raised these questions to Job in order to help him deepen his faith and trust in Him! Not only did God create the universe, He has maintained tremendous balance all the while! Without Someone to control the universe, cosmic disaster would have taken place!
THE CARE OF THE EARTH
The Lord personally took care of the earth prior to the advent of man. The following text gives a significant insight.
“This is the history of the heavens and the earth
when they were created, in the day that the Lord God
made the earth and the heavens, before any plant of the field
was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown.
For the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the earth,
and there was no man to till the ground; but a mist went up
from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.”GENESIS 2:4-6
Though the earth is a tiny part of the Milky Way, God still took great personal care of it. Faith must illumine our mind and instill within us a deep sense of awe!
