Genesis
"God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be held in reverence by all those around Him." Psalm 89:7
Text: Genesis 28:1-22
A WONDROUS REVELATION
As Jacob gazed at the scene, he suddenly realized that there was Someone else who formed part of that special dream.
“And behold, the Lord stood above it and said,
‘I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac;
the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants.
Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall
spread abroad to the west and to the east, to the north and
the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth
shall be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you
wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land;
for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken
to you.'”GENESIS 28:13-15
“I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac”
So it was true after all! There was a real Divine Being! The God that Isaac worshipped was indeed real and alive! Jacob had never fully comprehend nor ever fully believed in the God that Isaac worshipped. He had resorted to schemes and deception to obtain what he desired. How wrong he had been all this while! His human devices had earned him nothing but heartache and sorrow! He had left behind a family torn by strife. He was fleeing from a twin brother who swore to take his life! If ever there was a God, he surely needed to know Him well!
“The land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants…”
Jacob listened carefully as the God of Abraham spoke to him! He spoke candidly. He noticed that Jacob was lying on the ground! Nothing escaped the eye of this God then! He must have known all about him – including his foolish schemes of deception!
But this God had not spoken to him in condemnatory tones! Instead, He gave words of comfort and encouragement. The promise of inheritance of the land was not unfamiliar language. He had heard his father speaking of God’s promise of the land. For the first time in his life, he was hearing the Lord speaking to him on this subject!
What a Promise! He will indeed inherit the land! His descendants would continue to inherit the land after him! His father’s word of blessing wasn’t a mere wish! Isaac had uttered powerful words of faith and hope!
“In you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed”
What a challenge God gave to Jacob that night! Could he believe all that he had heard! All the families of the earth would be blessed through him and through his seed? And he wasn’t even married yet!
It was all up to Jacob now. Would he believe this wondrous revelation from the Lord God of his father Abraham? Genuine faith was everything now!
