"But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets…" Daniel 2:28

Text: Genesis 41:1-57

REMEMBERED AT LAST

The chief butler attended the Pharaoh personally. Thus he was privy to the fact that his master was troubled. He must have seen the convention of the magicians and wise men at Pharaoh’s palace. But meeting after meeting failed to resolve the problem that plagued Pharaoh’s mind. What did his dreams mean? Gathering up his courage, the butler made a startling confession.

“I remember my faults this day.
When Pharaoh was angry with his servants,
and put me in custody in the house of the captain of the guards,
both me and the chief baker, we each had a dream one night…
Now there was a young Hebrew man with us there,
a servant of the captain of the guard. And we told him,
and he interpreted our dreams for us;
to each man he interpreted according to his own dream;
and it came to pass, just as he interpreted for us, so it happened.”
GENESIS 41:9-13

1. How could the butler forget?

The butler somehow managed to forget the big favour done for him! But that too was well within the Lord’s divine plan! Even if the chief butler told people about Joseph, there would not be that same sense of appreciation as in the present moment.

2. At the right place and at the right time!

There was no mistaking the fact that the butler spoke at the right time. Pharaoh had tried all the usual avenues. His attempts had proven fruitless! His state of mind was such that he was willing to consult anybody – including a Hebrew slave locked in one of his many prisons!

3. A right word

Much depended on how the chief butler presented Joseph to the king! It was not difficult to describe Joseph actually. The butler remembered the following things:-

a) He was a young Hebrew slave.

b) He was a servant of the captain of the guard.

c) He was a good interpreter.

d) His accuracy level – a hundred percent.

NOTHING TO LOSE

What did Pharaoh have to lose if he were to call Joseph in for consultation? What would he have lost if he did invite Joseph to see him? The butler himself was delivered from jail not too long ago! Would the Pharaoh think that his butler had spoken out of turn? If so, he might end up in jail again. But he was totally unafraid of meeting up with Pharaoh. He had forgotten Joseph. He must have faith and courage!
