Genesis
Day
Day 29

"Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast." Psalm 33:8-9

Text: Genesis 7:1-24

THE PRONOUNCEMENT OF JUDGMENT ON THE EARTH

How solemn were the words God pronounced concerning the destruction of the earth. How Noah must have feared the Lord even as he heard Him speak.

“For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth
forty days and forty nights, and I will destroy from the face
of the earth all living things that I have made.”

GENESIS 7:4

1. The Hard Work in Building the Ark

Noah’s family had worked very hard to build the Ark. Then there was the work of gathering both the clean and unclean animals.

2. Another Piece of Hard Work in Gathering both Clean and Unclean Animals

a) The Clean and Unclean Animals

There is a specific mention of both types of animals in the following text.

“Of clean animals, of animals that are unclean,
of birds, and of everything that creeps on the earth,
two by two they went into the ark of Noah, male and female,
as God commanded Noah.”

GENESIS 7:8-9

God made special provision to preserve the clean animals for all posterity.

“You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal,
a male and his female… also seven each of birds of the air,
male and female, to keep the species alive on
the face of all the earth.”

GENESIS 7:2-3

b) Gathering of Provision for the all in the Ark

There was a lot of hard work put in to gather sufficient food for all the living things inside the ark.

“And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten,
and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you
and for them.”

GENESIS 6:21

ENTERING THE ARK

The week before the rains came must have been filled with more arduous work. We catch a glimpse of the procession of animals into the ark.

“And they went into the ark to Noah, two by two, of all flesh
in which is the breath of life. So those that entered,
male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him;
and the Lord shut him in.”

GENESIS 7:15-16

It was the Lord Himself who shut the door! What a significant symbolic act!
