Habakkuk
Day
Day 36

"Yet I will rejoice in the LORD"

Text: Habakkuk 3:17

LEARNING TO LIVE BY FAITH

Habakkuk would have to find sufficient faith to face what lay ahead of him! A strong and vibrant faith would be what he would need to face and overcome the challenges that would come as war loomed!

“Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labour of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls-
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.
The LORD God is my strength;
He will make my feet like deer’s feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills.”
Habakkuk 3:17-19

1. The horrors of war

a) Lives would be lost.
b) Normal things expected may no longer exist.
c) Life in Judah would be drastically affected adversely.

A grim picture was painted!

i) The fig tree may not blossom.
ii) No fruit on the vines.
iii) The olive tree will yield no fruit.
iv) The fields would become barren.
v) Both flock and herd may be destroyed totally.

2. The Just shall live by faith

a) Faith will enable a person to continue to find joy in the Lord.
i) Rejoicing is more than possible.
ii) But it would have to be found through faith in the Lord!
iii) Faith will trust in the salvation that God would give to His people.
b) Faith will enable a person to find the necessary strength to cope and triumph.
i) Strength would be given to those who turn to the Lord in faith.
ii) The imagery of a mountain deer was employed effectively.
iii) Like the deer with strong and certain feet, the believer will find strength to climb high hills!
