"Where there is remission..."

Text: Hebrews 10:18

THE ALL-IMPORTANT QUESTION

There are few questions as important as the subject of sin and its consequences! There is a marked difference between the Old and New Covenants!

1. In the Old Covenant

a) The sacrifices offered could not make a worshipper perfect (Hebrews 10:1).
b) They could not purify worshippers (Hebrews 10:2).
c) The consciousness of sins could not be taken away (Hebrews 10:2-3).
d) Sins could not be taken away (Hebrews 10:4, 11).
e) The Old (Mosaic) Covenant had to give way to the New Covenant (Hebrews 10:9).

2. In the New Covenant

a) Christ offered His body as the Perfect sacrifice (Hebrews 10:10).
b) Only ONE sacrifice was needed (Hebrews 10:10, 14).
c) Jesus has sanctified and perfected all who believe in Him (Hebrews 10:14).
d) He has brought in the New Covenant (Hebrews 10:16).
e) In this New Covenant, all sins and lawless deeds would be remembered no more
(Hebrews 10:17).

PONDERING OVER A GLORIOUS TRUTH

The author pondered the ramifications of Christ’s death in the following text.

“Now where there is remission of these,
there is no longer an offering of sin.”
Hebrews 10:18

1. Remission of these

This is a reference to a remission (forgiveness) of “sins and lawless deeds”.

2. There is no longer an offering of sin

This is a glorious truth indeed! All our sins and lawless deeds and their consequences have been dealt with through Christ’s death for us. His perfect sacrifice has answered God’s demand for justice. There is now “no longer an offering for sin”. That offering of sin had been made through Christ and accepted by God!
