"By a new and living way..."

Text: Hebrews 10:20

THE OLD WAY OF ENTERING INTO THE HOLIEST

There was a way of entering into The Holiest! However there were severe restrictions.

1. Only the high priest could enter into The Holiest.

2. He could enter once a year on the Day of Atonement.

3. He could not linger in The Holiest; he is to offer intercession and then leave immediately after that.

THE NEW WAY OF ENTERING INTO THE HOLIEST

The Author of Hebrews expressed the new way into The Holiest.

“By a new and living way which He consecrated for us,
through the veil, that is, His flesh.”
Hebrews 10:20

1. By a new and living way

a) The word “new” was used in contrast to the “old” Levitical system.

b) The word “living” was used to contrast the old system that was now effectively “dead”.

c) There is also a gentle hint that the new way was through a “living” Saviour (Risen from the dead).

2. Which He consecrated for us

a) This “new and living way” has been consecrated.

i) It has been set apart by the Lord Jesus.

ii) It has been accepted by God.

b) The beneficiaries are all who truly believe in the Lord Jesus.

c) The old restrictions have been removed.

3. Through the veil, that is, His flesh

a) There was a thick veil that separated the Holy Place from The Holiest.

b) That veil is now described as Christ’s “flesh”; we enter the Holiest through Christ!
