"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together..."

Text: Hebrews 10:25a

TREMENDOUS POSSIBILITIES

The faith that we have in Christ opens up tremendous possibilities! We can speak of drawing close to God with a true heart. We can experience having a conscience that has been cleansed by the Lord. We can also speak of doing good work that would benefit mankind.

DANGER AFOOT

The author of Hebrews was quick to point out the many dangers that threatened to rob the believer of the many blessings that he could enjoy. The following text highlights another danger:-

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,
as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another,
and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:25

1. The assembling of ourselves together

a) This is a reference to believers gathering together.

b) The purpose of such a gathering together could be for:-

i) Worship

ii) Special Bible Study

iii) Fellowship

2. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together

a) This could happen for a number of reasons:-

i) Some feel it is too troublesome to gather together.

ii) Others fear persecution from the authorities.

iii) Still others deliberately choose not to assemble themselves with other believers.

b) This danger must be recognized.

c) This danger can and must be overcome.

Never forsake the challenge of meaningful assembly!
