"By faith Sarah...judged Him faithful who had promised."

Text: Hebrews 11:11

THE FAITH OF SARAH

The faith of Sarah, the wife of Abraham also impressed the author of Hebrews. He had this to say about her faith.

“By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed,
and she bore a child when she was past the age, because
she judged Him faithful who had promised.”
Hebrews 11:11

1. God’s promise to Sarah

a) He promised that Sarah would conceive and bear a child (Cf. Genesis 17:15-16).
b) Sarah may have had initial difficulty, but in time found faith in God’s promise.

2. By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed

a) By faith Sarah must have sought the Lord’s grace and strength.
b) She received the strength she sought, to conceive.

3. And she bore a child when she was past the age

a) Conception would not have been easy to comprehend.
b) Sarah knew that she was past the child-bearing age.
c) Nevertheless her faith enabled her to find that grace and strength both to conceive and bear a son.

4. Because she judged Him faithful who had promised

a) Sarah’s faith in God was not a vague entity.
b) She believed in a faithful God.
c) This God of hers was One who kept His promises.
d) Had He not promised that Sarah would bear a son? Her faith enabled her to believe that He would faithfully keep His word of promise.

A STIRRING EXAMPLE OF APPLICATION OF FAITH

Faith in God was meant to be applied, in every circumstance of life! Such faith in God would always be honoured and blessed!
