"And what more shall I say?"

Text: Hebrews 11:32

MANY MORE HEROES OF FAITH COULD BE NAMED

A good number of people had already been named as heroes of the faith. But the list is virtually endless.

“And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me
to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah,
also of David and Samuel and the prophets.”
Hebrews 11:32

1. What more shall I say?

a) This was a rhetorical question.
b) Much had already been said.
c) Would the author have to say much more to prove his point about the significance of having faith in God?

2. For the time would fail me to tell of…

a) The telling of the story of faith of each Biblical hero would take too much time.
b) There were many people who possessed significant faith.

3. A short list

a) Gideon was the heroic Judge who subdued the powerful Midianites and brought peace to the land for forty years (Cf. Judges 6-8).
b) Barak and the prophetess Deborah delivered Israel from the hand of Jabin, king of the Canaanites and brought peace to the land for forty years (Cf. Judges 4-5).
c) Samson did his part for Israel and delivered Israel from the Philistines. His judgeship lasted twenty years (Judges 13-16).
d) Jephthah helped Israel to fight off the Ammonites. His judgeship lasted six years (Cf. Judges 11-12).
e) David, Samuel and the prophets

These were famous and outstanding heroes of faith. The mere mention of these names would evoke powerful feelings! Samuel and David were people who displayed outstanding faith in God.

Indeed, time would fail the author if he were to elaborate on the feats of faith associated with these heroes. The case for faith had been most successfully proven.
