Hebrews
Day
Day 46

"Here am I and the children whom God has given Me. "

Text: Hebrews 2:13

NOT AN IMPERSONAL SAVIOUR

Jesus is anything but an impersonal and detached Saviour! What a wonderful and precious Saviour He is to choose to be so identified with those He saves.

TREMENDOUS SENSE OF IDENTIFICATION

The sense of identification is certainly well demonstrated in the following text.

“And again:
I will put My trust in Him.
And again:
Here am I and the children whom God has given Me.”
Hebrews 2:13

1. “I will put My trust in Him”

a) This text may be traced to Psalm 18:2.
b) The mention of “trust” is most interesting.
i) Trust in the Lord is the focus.
ii) Trust in the Lord is to be seen in the context of Identification with the brethren
iii) This suggests that the idea of Identification with the brethren is from God the Father Himself .
iv) Embracing of this idea of identification would indeed involve trust.

2. “Here am I and the children whom God has given Me”

This is an even more fascinating text to study. The words seem to be drawn from a text in Isaiah.

“Here am I and the children whom the LORD has given me!
We are for signs and wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts
Who dwells in Mount Zion.”
Isaiah 8:18

a) There is a strong borrowing of words from Isaiah.
b) As in the original context, Jesus and (His) children, will be “for signs and wonders”.
c) The concept of such a deep sense of identification with believers is in indeed “a sign and a wonder”. (This concept is stupendously profound!)

If Christ is so identified with us, can we speak of close identification with Him?
