A servant...

Text: Hebrews 3:5

MOSES AS A FAITHFUL SERVANT OF GOD

Further proof may be adduced from a study of the following text. This significant text would help us understand how we may interpret the word “servant” when used with reference to Moses.

1. God’s word concerning Moses… as His servant.

“If there is a prophet among you,
I, the LORD, make Myself known to him in a vision;
I speak to him in a vision.
Not so with My servant Moses;
He is faithful in all My house.
I speak with him face to face,
Even plainly, and not in dark sayings.
And he sees the form of the LORD;
Why then were you not afraid
To speak against My servant Moses?”
Numbers 12:6-8

2. Special honour accorded to Moses the servant of God:-

a) He was considered greater than “a prophet”.
b) He was compared with prophets and stood out from among the prophets.
c) He was accorded special access to God (“face to face”).
d) He had the privilege of having seen “the form of God”.
e) He was to be highly regarded by all.
f) He was not to be spoken to rudely at any time.

OTHER REFERENCES TO MOSES AS GOD’S SERVANT

The following texts also make reference to Moses as God’s servant.

“Moses My servant is dead.”
Joshua 1:2

“Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe
to do according to all the law which Moses My servant
commanded you.”
Joshua 1:7

The term “servant” was used in the grandest sense of the word. There was nothing derogatory when it was used with reference to Moses. Nevertheless, no matter how great a servant may be, he cannot be compared to Jesus as the Son of God.
