But Christ as a Son over His own house...

Text: Hebrews 3:6

A HUGE DIFFERENCE

There is a huge difference between being a servant and being a son! There are certain similarities that may be acknowledged!

1. General Similarities

a) Both may live under the same roof.
b) Both may enjoy the same food.
c) Both may speak of serving the same Lord.

2. Great Differences

a) The servant will never enjoy the same status as the son.
b) The servant will never have the credential as the son.
c) The son would intrinsically enjoy a different relationship with the Master (Father).

CHRIST AS SON OVER HIS OWN HOUSE

This essential difference between Jesus and Moses was well brought out in the following text.

“But Christ as a Son over His own house,
whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence
and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.”
Hebrews 3:6

1. His own house

a) This “house” would square with the apostle Paul’s reference to the “Household of God” (Cf. Ephesians 2:19).
b) It would also be identified with the apostle Peter’s reference to “a spiritual house” (Cf. 1 Peter 2:5).
c) It is a reference to the Church, the spiritual house of God, of which Jesus is the Head (Cf. Ephesians 1:22).

2. Whose house we are

Both the apostles Peter and Paul allude to the fact that all believers are part of this household (Cf. Ephesians 2:19-22; 1 Peter 2:5). Whereas we are but living stones, Christ is the Cornerstone. He is the only begotten Son! We are privileged to be part of His house.
