"The LORD also brings a charge against Judah"

Text: Hosea 12:2

INCONSISTENT JUDAH

Judah was commended when it walked with God (Hosea 11:12). But sadly, Judah was not consistent.

“The LORD also brings a charge against Judah,
And will punish Jacob according to his ways;
According to his deeds He will recompense him.”
Hosea 12:2

1. “The LORD also brings a charge against Judah”

a) When Judah walked with God:
i) In worship
ii) In obedience
iii) In faithfulness
iv) The nation was protected and blessed
b) But there were times when Judah did not walk with God.
i) It began to worship idols.
ii) King Manasseh was a clear example of how far wrong he led Judah (2 Chronicles 33).
iii) God had to bring a charge against Judah.

2. “And will punish Jacob according to his ways”

a) The reference to the name “Jacob”:
i) This would be a reference to the time when he cheated his brother Esau.
ii) The time when he lied to his father to obtain the blessing of the firstborn (Genesis 25, 27).
b) Judah was caught up with sin too:
i) Lying and cheating
ii) Bent on doing sinful things

3. “According to his deeds He will recompense him”

a) King Manasseh began his rule as king at twelve years of age and reigned for 55 years.
b) He did evil in the sight of the LORD (2 Chronicles 33:2-9).
i) He restored the idolatrous shrines that his father King Hezekiah had broken down.
ii) He even built altars in the house of the LORD.
c) God would recompense him according to all the evil he did.
i) He was captured by Assyria and he was fettered and hooked (2 Chronicles 33:11).
ii) In his humiliating moments he cried out to God and was heard (2 Chronicles 33:13).
