Day 25

"A door of hope"

Text: Hosea 2:15

THREE IMPORTANT TRUTHS

Hosea had a mature understanding of the LORD God. Thus, he sought to communicate three vital truths to Israel.

1. The truth of God’s “punishment” Hosea 2:13

a) The sin of idolatry had to be addressed.
b) With idolatry came many evil deeds.
c) God’s punishment had to be meted out for the LORD is holy and just.

2. The truth of God’s “comfort” Hosea 2:14

a) God would offer comfort to the repentant.
b) He would grant grace, mercy and comfort.
c) This was within God’s will and plan.

3. The truth of “hope” Hosea 2:15

This was clearly taught and well-articulated in the following text.

“I will give her her vineyards from there,
And the Valley of Achor as a door of hope;
She shall sing there,
As in the days of her youth,
As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt.”
Hosea 2:15

THE HOPE THAT GOD GIVES

The heart is uplifted when this text is read and understood carefully.

1. The word “Achor”:

a) It is related to the word “Achan”.
b) Achan was a man who was overtaken by covetousness and greed in the days when Joshua led the children of Israel to conquer Canaan (Joshua 7:16-26).
c) The word “Achor” (Achan) means “trouble”.

2. Israel was in trouble because of many sins, one of which was covetousness too.

3. “The Valley of Achor as a door of hope”

a) Achor was also mentioned in Isaiah 65:10.
b) This was a fertile region where flocks may feed safely.
c) He would give “hope” in practical expressions (He would give vineyards to Israel again).

4. “She shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, as in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt”

a) Israel in her younger days was full of joy and hope.
b) She was just happy to be God’s chosen and happily followed His leading from Egypt to Canaan.
