INTRODUCTION

1. Identification of the prophet Isaiah.

a) His name means “The LORD is salvation”.

b) He was an active prophet who ministered through the reigns of four kings
(Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah).

c) These were kings of the Southern Kingdom of Judah.

2. The significance of the Book of Isaiah.

a) It contained the most references to the Messiah in comparison to other prophetic books.

b) The prophecies comprehensively covered many aspects of the life of the Messiah:

i) Birth

ii) Life

iii) Ministry

iv) Suffering

v) Death

vi) His eternal kingdom

3. Some reasons why we would want to read the Book of Isaiah:

a) For the beauty of the language.

b) For rich spiritual insights of Messianic prophecy.

c) For the majesty of the Messianic theme.

d) For the personal uplifting of our spirit.

e) For the strengthening of our faith and hope in the Kingdom of the Messiah.

f) For the deepening of our understanding of the doctrine of our salvation.

g) For the strengthening of our commitment to be faithful servants of the LORD.
