"The vision of Isaiah"

Text: Isaiah 1:1

DIVINE MEANS OF COMMUNICATION

There were special ways in which God communicated with mankind. A study of the prophetic books will help us appreciate some of God’s ways of making known His will.

“The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz,
which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days
of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.”
Isaiah 1:1

1. “The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz”

a) The word “vision”:

i) Visions were essentially divine revelatory messages.

ii) They originate from God.

iii) They were given to Isaiah.

b) “Isaiah the son of Amoz”

i) He was an 8th century prophet.

ii) He probably ministered for more than 40 years.

iii) Talmudic rabbis think that his father was also a prophet.

iv) Some even suggest that he was a member of the royal family of Judah.

2. The long ministry of Isaiah.

a) Uzziah’s reign lasted 52 years (2 Chronicles 26:3).

i) Isaiah began his ministry towards the end of Uzziah’s reign.

ii) God gave him a special vision and call (Isaiah 6).

b) Jotham’s reign was 16 years (2 Chronicles 27:1).

c) Ahaz’s reign was 16 years also (2 Chronicles 28:1).

d) Hezekiah’s reign was 29 years (2 Chronicles 29:1).

3. Isaiah was still actively ministering as a prophet in the reign of Hezekiah (Isaiah 37-38).
He was called to attend to King Hezekiah who came near to death because of an illness!
