"LORD, You will establish peace for us"

Text: Isaiah 26:12

THE PEACE THAT GOD WILLL GIVE

Israel had seen so much war from the earliest times. Long before Israel became a kingdom, it had known wars and its aftermath. Peace was a much-sought after blessing!

“LORD, You will establish peace for us,
For You have also done all our works in us.
O LORD our God, masters besides You
Have had dominion over us;
But by You only we make mention of Your name.”
Isaiah 26:12-13

1. The many works of the LORD for His people.

a) It was God who redeemed them from slavery in Egypt.

b) It was God who led them through the Wilderness journey.

c) It was the LORD who brought them into the land of Canaan.

d) It was the LORD who established them as a nation.

e) Hence, Isaiah acknowledged the many works of God in Israel.

2. The establishment of peace.

a) Peace was the blessing that was missing.

b) There had been no peace:

i) Between Judah and Israel.

ii) Between Israel and the surrounding nations (Edom, Ammon etc.).

c) Isaiah trusted the LORD to give and establish peace one day.

3. The nations that had been masters of Israel and Judah.

a) The Egyptians.

b) Syria, Philistia from time to time overcame Israel.

c) The latest threats.

i) Assyria

ii) Babylon

4. Isaiah’s trust in the LORD.

a) Isaiah was one of many prophets God had sent to Israel/ Judah.

b) Their part was to intercede for the nation.

c) Isaiah spoke of how the faithful had mention of the LORD’s name:

i) In prayer.

ii) In the taking of oaths.

iii) In trust for the future.

d) The faithful prayed much that God would grant much-needed peace
to Israel/ Judah.
