"A crown of glory"

Text: Isaiah 28:5

THE TRUE CROWN

Israel’s crown was doomed to fail. The true crown of Israel was the LORD God Himself! This was explained to the nation clearly.

“In that day the LORD of hosts will be
For a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty
To the remnant of His people,
For a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment,
And for strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.”
Isaiah 28:5-6

1. The LORD God of hosts.

a) He was the One who redeemed Israel.

b) He was the Provider and Protector of the nation.

2. The significance of a Crown.

a) The Crown is placed on the head of the Ruler.

i) The Crown is always elaborately made.

ii) It has great symbolic significance.

b) The significance of the Crown.

i) It reflects the glory of the Kingdom.

ii) It also reflects the glory of the King.

3. The crown of Israel described.

a) A crown of glory

b) A diadem of beauty

c) Glory and Beauty are found in the LORD God of hosts.

4. The remnant of Israel

a) Returning Israel was but a remnant.

b) The population had been badly decimated by war.

c) The glory of the nation therefore resides in the King Himself.

d) His personal glory and beauty would be passed down to the nation.

e) Remnant Israel had no particular glory to speak of at all.

5. Further glimpses of the glory of the LORD

a) The LORD would bring back true justice to the nation.

i) He would help those who sit in judgment.

ii) The judges must uphold justice uprightly.

b) The LORD would give strength and courage to the nation.

i) In the past, the defenders had fled from the battle.

ii) In the future, the LORD would embolden and strengthen the soldiers
who defended the nation.

iii) They need not fear the enemies who are at the gates!
