"A king will reign in righteousness"

Text: Isaiah 32:1

A DESCRIPTION OF A KINGDOM OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

Isaiah describes what a righteous kingdom should be. Israel was not a righteousness kingdom and it would be destroyed by the Assyrians. Judah was urged to be that righteous kingdom. At this time, Hezekiah was the king of Judah.

“Behold, a king will reign in righteousness,
And princes will rule with justice.
A man will be as a hiding place from the wind,
And a cover from the tempest,
As rivers of water in a dry place,
As the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.”
Isaiah 32:1-2

1. The role of the king.

a) He must reign in righteousness.

b) He must have officers (“princes”) who would rule with justice.

c) Only when this happens could any kingdom be called
“a kingdom of righteousness”.

d) Ultimately, only the Lord Jesus would fulfil this prophetic word
when He establishes the future Millennial Kingdom.

2. The righteous man in the kingdom of righteousness.

a) He would be like a hiding place (a shelter) from the wind.

b) He would be a cover (shelter) from the tempest,

c) He would be like “rivers of water in a dry place”.

d) He would be like “the shadow of a great rock in a weary land”.

3. This was a challenging word from Isaiah.

a) To the king and the princes.

b) To all the men who dwelt in Jerusalem.

c) If this word was heeded, Judah would be greatly blessed by the LORD.
