"The effect of righteousness"

Text: Isaiah 32:17

THE OUTPOURING OF THE SPIRIT

The outpouring of the Spirit of God was essential if a kingdom is to thrive. This was a word of encouragement to desire and to pray for such an outpouring.

“Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high,
And the wilderness becomes a fruitful field,
And the fruitful field is counted as a forest.
Then justice will dwell in the wilderness,
And righteousness remain in the fruitful field.
The work of righteousness will be peace,
And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.”
Isaiah 32:15-17

1. The outpouring of the Spirit of God.

a) This was also noted by the prophet Joel (Joel 2:28-29).

b) But the outpouring of the Spirit in this prophecy was focused on
the servants of the LORD.

2. The Spirit of God and the impact on the righteous kingdom.

a) The wilderness will become a fruitful field.

b) The fruitfulness is so extensive it is like a thick forest.

c) Justice will dwell even in the wilderness.

d) Righteousness will remain in the fruitful field.

3. The fruits of righteousness.

a) It will work in hearts.

b) Peace will come to the land.

c) The effects are wonderful.

i) Quietness in the spirit.

ii) Assurance of the heart.

iii) The threat of war is no more feared.
