"A bruised reed He will not break"

Text: Isaiah 42:3

GOD’S KIND OF A SERVANT

The Messiah is truly God’s kind of a servant. He will have full authority and power because He has been anointed by God’s Spirit. Yet, He would always be gracious and merciful in life and ministry.

“A bruised reed He will not break,
And smoking flax He will not quench;
He will bring forth justice for truth.
He will not fail nor be discouraged,
Till He has established justice in the earth;
And the coastlands shall wait for His law.”
Isaiah 42:3-4

1. How the Messiah would regard His people.

a) Some people are weak and compared to “a bruised reed”.
But the Messiah would not do away with the bruised reed.

They are at the end of their tethers but the Messiah would not quench them and throw them away.

2. How the Messiah would uphold justice.

a) He would bring forth justice for the sake of truth.

b) He would serve the cause of the Gentiles too.

3. How the Messiah would face the odds stacked against Him.

a) He will not fail to do what the LORD has commanded Him.

b) He will never allow discouragement to affect Him adversely.

4. The Prophetic word concerning the Rule of the Messiah.

a) The Messiah would one day rule the earth.

b) He would address injustice in the world.

c) The poor and the needy often suffered injustice.

d) The Messiah would do His part to uphold justice.

e) The effects would be seen:

i) On the earth and not just Israel.

ii) The “coastlands” is a reference to the Gentile world.
