"I will not forget you"

Text: Isaiah 49:15

MISGIVINGS ABOUT THE LORD

There were some in Israel who harboured misgivings about the LORD. Their misgivings caused them to go astray from the LORD.

“But Zion said, ‘The LORD has forsaken me,
And my Lord has forgotten me.’
Can a woman forget her nursing child,
And not have compassion on the son of her womb?
Surely they may forget,
Yet I will not forget you.”
Isaiah 49:14-15

1. Two misgivings were highlighted

a) “The LORD has forsaken me”

i) There were wars.

ii) There was suffering.

iii) Many feel that they were forsaken by God.

iv) They had not factored in the fact that they had caused their own sorrows!

b) “My Lord has forgotten me”

i) Some felt neglected by God.

ii) They felt that God had forgotten them completely.

iii) This was, of course, untrue.

iv) God had sent to Israel many prophets who proclaimed the word of God,
but their words had been rejected.

2. God addressed these issues directly

a) He used an illustration of a nursing mother.

b) Can the nursing mother forget her child?

c) Can she forget the son of her womb?

d) Even if it possible for some mothers to forget.

e) Nevertheless, the LORD would never forget His children!
