Day 6

"You shall go to all to whom I send you"

Text: Jeremiah 1:7

COMMON ERRONEOUS ASSUMPTIONS

God was fully aware of what Jeremiah said and meant. He knew that there were common but erroneous assumptions that existed. One of those errors was that youth renders a person unsuitable for ministry. That had to be addressed and corrected.

“But the LORD said to me:
‘Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’
For you shall go to all to whom I send you,
And whatever I command you, you shall speak.'”
Jeremiah 1:7

1. “But the LORD said to me”

a) Jeremiah remembered what the Lord had said to him.
b) The first lesson he learned was one where he had to be corrected by the Lord.
c) The Lord would play this role of correcting Jeremiah many more times.

2. “Youth”

a) It is just a stage in life.
b) It has its downsides:
i) Inexperience
ii) Lack of deep wisdom
c) But it has its upsides:
i) Energy and enthusiasm
ii) Openness to learning and gaining needed wisdom.

3. “Do not say, ‘I am a youth'”

a) Youthfulness must not be used as an excuse.
b) There is nothing intrinsically wrong with being “a youth”.
c) The “opposite” of being a youth could be a much older man.
d) But being an older man does not make a person a good servant of God.

4. Establishing a clear and important relationship

a) “For you shall go to all to whom I send you”
i) God is the One who will do the sending.
ii) He is the Lord and He has both authority and power to choose whom He would send.
b) “And whatever I command you, you shall speak”
i) Ultimately, it is the word of command from God that counts (not age).
ii) And whatever God reveals and commands, Jeremiah must preach that word.
