"Surely it will be well with your remnant"

Text: Jeremiah 15:11

HOPE FOR THE HUMBLE REMNANT

The judgment of the LORD would fall heavily upon the present children of Judah. But what about the remnant?

“The LORD said:
‘Surely it will be well with your remnant;
Surely I will cause the enemy to intercede with you
In the time of adversity and in the time of affliction.
Can anyone break iron,
The northern iron and the bronze?'”
Jeremiah 15:11-12

1. The idea of the “remnant”

a) “And the remnant of them I will deliver to the sword” (Jeremiah 15:9)
i) This “remnant” will be delivered to the sword.
ii) They are apparently wicked and unrepentant remnant.
iii) God’s judgment was against those who chose the path of sin.
b) “The LORD said: ‘Surely it will be well with your remnant'”
i) The same word “remnant” was employed.
ii) But this word was assuring and comforting.
iii) God promised that this remnant group would be well.
(They would not be given to the sword, as in the previous group.)
iv) These must have been found repentant and humble before God.

2. “Surely I will cause the enemy to intercede with you in the time of adversity and in the time of affliction”

a) They would also face a time of adversity and affliction.
b) But God would help the meek remnant.
c) Intercession would be made for them to the enemy.

3. “Can anyone break iron, the northern iron and the bronze?”

a) God reminded His people of the enemy from the north.
b) They are likened to:
i) Northern Iron
ii) Bronze
c) These were very strong metals that cannot be easily broken.
