"Write in a book"

Text: Jeremiah 30:2

A PROPHETIC BOOK

The LORD gave instructions to Jeremiah to write down all that He had spoken to Jeremiah. This would become the Book of Jeremiah. It would become a book of reference to what God had said. Many details had been given and they could be lost in transmission unless they were written down.

“The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
‘Thus speaks the LORD God of Israel, saying:
‘Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you.
For behold, the days are coming,’ says the LORD,
‘that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,’
says the LORD.
‘And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers,
and they shall possess it.””
Jeremiah 30:1-3

1. “The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying”

a) Once again, the word of God came to Jeremiah.

b) The LORD had communicated with Jeremiah closely.

c) Every message preached had been given by the LORD.

2. “Thus speaks the LORD God of Israel, saying: ‘Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you'”

a) This word came from God who identified Himself formally as “The LORD God of Israel”.

b) This message was a little different.

c) Jeremiah was to write down for himself all that God had said to him.

d) This would be a book that would contain what God said.

3. “‘For behold, the days are coming,’ says the LORD, ‘that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,’ says the LORD. ‘And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it'”

a) The promise of the LORD.

i) He will bring His people back from their Captivity.

ii) His people are identified as both “Israel and Judah”.

iii) They will no longer be distinguished as separate kingdoms.

b) They will occupy the land that God had given to their forebears.

i) They will possess their Land once again.

ii) This was a bold promise of the LORD.

iii) It was written down so that the people may be assured of God’s promise.
