"And my sleep was sweet to me"

Text: Jeremiah 31:26

THE BLESSINGS THAT GOD WOULD BESTOW ON RETURNING ISRAEL

The LORD was specific as to how He would bless the Returnees. His promises of blessing would bring hope and joy to the faithful!

“‘And there shall dwell in Judah itself, and in all its cities together,
farmers and those going out with flocks.
For I have satiated the weary soul,
and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.’
After this I awoke and looked around,
and my sleep was sweet to me.”
Jeremiah 31:24-26

1. “And there shall dwell in Judah itself, and in all its cities together,
farmers and those going out with flocks”

a) Judah was specifically mentioned.

i) This would be of geographical significance.

ii) This would be a blessing to the land itself.

b) “All its cities together”

i) Again, we are looking at blessings that would be given physically.

ii) The cities, all of them, would be blessed.

c) Farmers and shepherds

i) Ancient Israel was agrarian in economy.

ii) The farmers would be blessed.

iii) The shepherds would be similarly blessed.

2. “For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul”

a) God was mindful of the following:

i) Those who were weary.

ii) Those who were sorrowful.

iii) He would reach out to them too.

b) What would God do for them?

i) He would satiate (fully meet all their needs and more) the weary souls.

ii) He would replenish the sorrowful souls.

iii) They would be so blessed that they would not need to feel sorrow anymore.

3. “After this I awoke and looked around, and my sleep was sweet to me”

a) This message was communicated to Jeremiah in a dream.

b) When he understood what God had said to him, he found that his sleep was sweet.

c) He believed that God would do as He had promised!
