"Yet the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans"

Text: Jeremiah 32:25

A PRAYER OF JEREMIAH IV

Finally, Jeremiah brings his petition to the LORD. He presents the prevailing circumstances in Judah to the LORD and asked why he was instructed to purchase a field in Anathoth.

“Look, the siege mounds!
They have come to the city to take it;
and the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it,
because of the sword and famine and pestilence.
What You have spoken has happened; there You see it!
And You have said to me, O Lord GOD,
‘Buy the field for money, and take witnesses’!—
yet the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans.”
Jeremiah 32:24-25

1. “Look, the siege mounds! They have come to the city to take it;
and the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it,
because of the sword and famine and pestilence.
What You have spoken has happened; there You see it!”

a) Jeremiah presents the war situation to the LORD.

i) The siege mounds had been set up.

ii) The enemies are ready to seize Jerusalem.

iii) The city had been given to the Chaldeans.

iv) The sword and pestilence will prevail.

b) All that God had said were being fulfilled.

i) Jeremiah asked the LORD to look at the situation in Judah.

ii) Surely, it was obvious that the Chaldeans would conquer Judah completely.

2. “And You have said to me, O Lord GOD,
‘Buy the field for money, and take witnesses’!—
yet the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans”

a) God had spoken clearly to Jeremiah.

b) His instructions had been very clear.

i) Buy the field in Anathoth.

ii) Witnesses must be there.

c) The city of Anathoth had been given to the Chaldeans.

d) What would be the point of purchasing land that has been taken by the enemies?
