"I will surely consume them"

Text: Jeremiah 8:13

DUE PUNISHMENT

The Children of Judah felt nothing at these words of Judgment from God. Their hearts had become so hardened, they did not express concern at all.

“‘Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination?
No! They were not at all ashamed,
Nor did they know how to blush.
Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;
In the time of their punishment
They shall be cast down,’ says the LORD.
‘I will surely consume them,’ says the LORD.
‘No grapes shall be on the vine,
Nor figs on the fig tree,
And the leaf shall fade;
And the things I have given them shall pass away from them.'”
Jeremiah 8:12-13

i) They would fall.
ii) They would be cast down.
iii) They would lose their wives and their fields (Jeremiah 8:10).

3. “‘I will surely consume them,’ says the LORD.
‘No grapes shall be on the vine,
nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade;
and the things I have given them shall pass away from them.'”

a) The Children of Judah would be consumed.
b) Their basic means of livelihood would perish.
i) No grapes
ii) No figs
iii) Even the leaves would fade away.
c) All that God had given would be no more!

These were grave words! How could anyone not be perturbed?
