"Certain men have crept in unnoticed..."

EXPLAINING THE PROBLEM AT HAND

Jude of course needed to explain to his readers why he was exhorting them to earnestly contend for the faith.

“For certain men have crept in unnoticed,
who long ago were marked out for this condemnation,
ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness
and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Jude 4

1. “For certain men have crept in unnoticed”

a) Jude highlighted the problem at hand.

b) There were people who had infiltrated the church.

i) They had crept in unnoticed.

ii) They had probably come in under false pretenses.

2. Jude’s critical observations about them

a) They had been marked out by God for condemnation.

i) They were known to God.

ii) Even though they may have crept in unnoticed.

b) They were ungodly people.

i) These were unrighteous people.

ii) They show no godliness in their life.

3. What they did wrong

a) They corrupted the teaching of grace.

i) They had distorted the teaching of the grace of God.

ii) They had turned it into something indecent.

b) They further denied basic and cardinal teachings of the faith.

i) They denied the only Lord God.

ii) They also denied the Lord Jesus Christ.

4. What then did they teach?

a) A godless faith.

b) A lifestyle of indecency devoid of any mention of the Lord Jesus Christ.
