Day 365 – Luke 24

Text: Luke 24:44-53; 1: 1-4

“THAT YOU MAY KNOW THE CERTAINTY OF THOSE THINGS IN WHICH YOU WERE INSTRUCTED” Luke 1:1-4

Luke began with a great sense of purpose as he did his research in preparation for the writing of his Gospel. He wanted Theophilus to have as deep a knowledge of the Lord Jesus as possible. Only when there is sufficient knowledge would there be a strong faith as well.

The Apostle Peter confirms that this is the right approach and understanding in his second general epistle. He wrote,

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you
in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord”
2 Peter 1:2

There is blessing indeed when one truly knows the life and teachings of the Lord Jesus with a great sense of certainty. Jesus Himself confirmed the importance of having full knowledge.

“These are the words which I spoke to you
while I was still with you, that all things
must be fulfilled which were written
in the Law of Moses and the Prophets
and the Psalms concerning Me.
And He opened their understanding,
That they might comprehend the Scriptures.”
Luke 24:44-45

“THE LAW OF MOSES” Luke 24:44

It was Moses who gave a vital prophetic promise to ancient Israel. He said.

“The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet
like me from your midst, from your brethren.
Him you shall hear

And the Lord said to me
I will raise up for them a Prophet like you
From among their brethren, and will put My words
In His mouth, and He shall speak to them all
That I command Him.
And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words,
Which He speaks in My Name,
I will require it of Him.”
Deuteronomy 18:15, 17-19

Jesus was that Prophet and much more! “But we see Jesus”

“THE PROPHETS” Luke 24:44

Many were the prophets who proclaimed the birth, life and ministry of The Messianic Servant of the Lord. Isaiah was one outstanding example of The Prophets who preached and wrote about the Messiah. Let us consider some of the striking proclamations he wrote concerning the Messiah.

“Behold! My Servant whom I uphold,
My Elect One in whom My soul delights!
I have put My Spirit upon Him.”
Isaiah 42:1

“Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently;
He shall be exalted and extolled
And be very high”
Isaiah 52:13

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord”
Isaiah 61:1-2

Jesus was indeed that special Messianic Servant of the Lord and more. “But we see Jesus”

“THE PSALMS” Luke 24:44

The author of the Book of Hebrews had a deep understanding and appreciation of the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. He wrote,

“Therefore, when He (Jesus) came into the world, He said:
‘Sacrifice and offering You did not desire,
But a body You have prepared for Me.
In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin
You had no pleasure. Then I said, “Behold, I have come –
In the volume of the book it is written of Me –
To do Your will, O God'” ‘ “
Hebrews 10:5-7(Cf. Ps. 40:6-8)

The author was citing what Jesus said when He ministered on earth. Jesus understood the will of God. The Lord God, His Father had prepared Him a body and He would become that supreme sacrifice for the sins of mankind.

Jesus fulfilled the prophecies in the Psalms and more. “But we see Jesus”
