Day 23

"Have we not all one Father?"

Text: Malachi 2:10

CHILDREN OF ISRAEL

There is much to be said when the term “children of Israel” was used frequently (in the book of Exodus). There were good reasons why this phrase was used frequently.

1. A strong sense of national identity.

2. A unifying sense of closeness.

3. A strong bond of oneness.

LOSS OF ONENESS

Sadly, this sense of oneness was lost to Israel. The nation had become two opposing kingdoms. They never came back together again.

“Have we not all one Father?
Has not one God created us?
Why do we deal treacherously with one another
By profaning the covenant of the fathers?”
Malachi 2:10

1. An essential sense of oneness

a) This was an even greater reason for oneness as a nation.
b) They were not just “the children of Israel”.
c) They had One God.
i) He was Father to all.
ii) He was Creator of all.

2. The problem of “treachery”

a) The people were cheating each other.
b) They took advantage of one another.
c) There was little regard or concern for each other’s welfare.

3. “Profaning the covenant of the fathers”

a) The covenant of the fathers should have helped them bond together.
b) Instead, the covenant was profaned when people dealt in treachery.
