"Pleasant to the LORD"

Text: Malachi 3:4

A MINISTRY PLEASING TO THE LORD

The LORD would not accept any ministry that is defiled or defective. But He would accept a ministry that is good and holy.

“Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem
Will be pleasant to the LORD,
As in the days of old,
As in former years.”
Malachi 3:4

1. “The offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasant to the LORD”

a) This word holds out hope that God would receive an offering that is presented correctly.
b) Judah and Jerusalem
i) True worship was never associated with Israel when it became idolatrous.
ii) Jerusalem was the chosen centre of worship (2 Chronicles 7:12).

2. “As in the days of old, as in former years”

a) The most outstanding worship must be at the dedication of the Temple (2 Chronicles 6).
b) God’s approval was made very clear.
i) Fire came from heaven and consumed the offerings (2 Chronicles 7:1).
ii) The glory of the LORD filled the Temple (2 Chronicles 7:1-2).
iii) The glory manifested was so great no one could enter the Temple (2 Chronicles 7:3).

WORSHIP ACCEPTABLE TO GOD

The following elements must be given careful consideration (among other features).

1. The LORD’s name must be held in highest esteem (Malachi 1:14; 2:2).

2. Thanksgiving must be given to the LORD (Psalm 50:14).

3. The sacrifices of righteousness would be acceptable to God (Psalm 51:19; 1 Peter 2:5).

4. Worship must be offered in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24).

5. Genuine faith must exist if God is to be pleased (Hebrews 11:6).
