“Because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements melt with fervent heat…” 2 Peter 3:12b

QUESTIONS THAT FOLLOW

The Disciples struggled hard to comprehend what Jesus wanted to communicate to them. There must have been many questions raised. The following was the most challenging.

“Who then can be saved?”
MARK 10:26

What was at the back of the mind of the Disciples when they raised this question?

1. There was wealth.

2. The rich young had maintained a decent lifestyle, keeping God’s commandments.

3. He was earnest and sincere.

Surely these things were “pluses”. How could Jesus say that it was easier for a camel to go through an eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God?

ENTRANCE INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD

How may a person enter into the kingdom of God? This seemed a moot question at this point of time. Jesus wanted His disciples to appreciate afresh their being in the kingdom of God.

“With men it is impossible, but not with God;
for with God all things are possible.”
MARK 10:27

Jesus emphasized the role that God plays in helping man to enter into His kingdom.

1. It is God’s kingdom that He opens up to all sinners.

2. It is the Gospel of the kingdom that makes it possible for people to understand.

3. It is the invisible work of God causing men to come to full repentance.

WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE

The rich must not think that he can gain entrance into God’s kingdom, because of his wealth and his good deeds. The rich must recognize that he must humble himself as an unworthy sinner before God. He must seek to repent from his sins and plead with God for forgiveness. He must receive salvation as a gracious gift from God. If his riches prevent him from coming to God in such humility, he will never enter into His kingdom!

God’s help must be acknowledged and sought. What glorious knowledge- “With God all things are possible!” This principle applies equally to the poor and the rich.
