I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke "Acts 2:19"

A SOLEMN CONCLUSION OF THE PARABLE

A good conclusion is as necessary as a good introduction. Jesus drew His parable to a close with these words.

“Therefore what will the owner of the
vineyard do?
He will come and destroy the vinedressers,
and give the vineyard to others.”
MARK 12:9

1. The vineyard
This was an obvious reference to Israel.

2. The owner
God was the Owner.

3. The Lessees (vinedressers)
a) They may feel that they owned the vineyard, but they did not!
b) They would be held accountable for their wicked deeds.

4. The judgment of the owner
a) He would return to destroy the vinedressers.
b) He had every right to give the vineyard to others who were truly worthy.

SCRIPTURAL SUPPORT FOR THIS TEACHING

Jesus cited the Scriptures to support His teaching, as He always did.

“Have you not even read this Scripture:
‘The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone.
This was the Lord’s doing,
And it is marvelous in our eyes’?”
MARK 12:10-11

THE QUIET FURY OF THE CHIEF PRIESTS AND SCRIBES

Did they understand this parable? The following text gives the answer.

“And they sought to lay hands on Him,
But feared the multitude, for they knew
He had spoken the parable against them.
So they left Him and went away.”
MARK 12:12

They had understood the meaning of the parable. However, that did not mean that they had accepted the teaching of Jesus. They walked away in quiet fury.
