Mark
Acts 3:13a "The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus..." Acts 3:13a"
Day 300 – Mark 14
“The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus…” Acts 3:13a
KEEPING OF THE PASSOVER
The Passover was essentially celebrated over one single meal. The Feast of the Unleavened Bread followed immediately after the Passover. The two Feasts are often seen as one, and thus celebrated over eight days.
“Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread,
when they killed the Passover lamb, His disciples said to Him,
‘Where do You want us to go and prepare, that You may eat
the Passover?”
MARK 14:12
1. The Keeping of the Passover was more than a tradition
This was a statute, a law God Himself gave to Moses (Cf. Exodus 12).
2. Concern about the Keeping of the Passover
The Disciples knew that though Jesus disdained the keeping of the traditions of the chief priests and Pharisees, he would keep the Passover with them. Thus their question was a valid one.
3. Necessary Secrecy
It must not seem strange to us, that Jesus kept His celebration of the Passover a secret. A few reasons may be offered:-
a) There must have been many who would love to have Him at their Passover meal
But this was not the time. This was going to be the Last Passover with His disciples. He did not want any fuss from a grateful follower.
b) There was a need for secrecy for protection
Jesus knew that the chief priests had people who spied for them. He did not want anyone to be hurt along the way, should there be scuffles.
c) There were still some important lessons He wanted to impart to His disciples
He would be keeping the Passover with His disciples- for the last time! There were so many more lessons He must yet teach them. There was so little time left. He must have a quiet place to celebrate the Passover.
A SECRET PLACE
Jesus had it all arranged and not even His disciples were privy to the arrangements made! Judas would not be able to betray Jesus before He kept this last Passover!
“And He sent out two of His disciples and said to them,
‘Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying
a pitcher of water; follow him.”
