“Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go.” Acts 3:13b
DISCOVERING A PRECIOUS TRUTH
The Disciples once again discovered an important trait about their Master. This truth is well stated in the following text.
“Wherever he goes in, say to the master of the house,
‘The Teacher says, ‘Where is the guest room in which
I may eat the Passover with My disciples?’
Then he will show you a large upper room, furnished
and prepared, there make ready for us.’
So His disciples went out, and came into the city, and
found it just as He had said to them;
and they prepared the Passover”
MARK 14:14-16
1. Furnished and Prepared
The Disciples need not have worried that they would not have a roof over their heads at the Passover! They should have understood that Jesus was never slipshod or haphazard at any time, and in any way. He would have prepared everything well in advance.
2. Just as He had said
Had Jesus at any time spoken a word that He had not kept? Three years with Jesus should have taught the Disciples that things will always be “just as He had said”.
3. Make ready
There was something that the Disciples could do. An advance party from among the Twelve would be sent, and their task was to do whatever was necessary to “make ready for the Passover meal”. The Disciples went on to fulfill their assignment. They “prepared the Passover”.
A SAD CONVERSATION AT THE PASSOVER MEAL
The Passover was usually celebrated with joy and deep appreciation. While the original Egyptian Passover was celebrated with a great deal of tension and excitement, the Passover over time, had become a time of jubilant commemoration of that great day when the Lord passed over Egypt and slew all the firstborn in the land.
This particular Passover was clouded with sadness. Jesus uttered these solemn words at mealtime.
“In the evening He came with the twelve.
Now as they sat and ate, Jesus said,
‘Assuredly, I say to you, one of you who eats with Me
will betray Me.'”
MARK 14:17-18
What a topic to bring up at the Passover meal! What could Jesus mean? How could one of the Twelve betray Jesus!
