BLESSING OF THE DILIGENT SEEKER OF KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

Let us once again turn to the Book of Proverbs to note how God would bless the diligent searcher of the knowledge of God.

“Then you will understand the fear of the LORD,
And find the knowledge of God.
For the LORD gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
He guards the paths of justice,
And preserves the way of His saints.
Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
Equity and every good path.”
PROVERBS 2:5-9

THE CONTRAST BETWEEN THE MULTITUDE AND THE DISCIPLES

A huge contrast may be observed between the multitude and the smaller group of disciples who surrounded Jesus.

1. The Multitude

a) They came only because they desired healing from Jesus.
b) They went to great lengths to find Jesus; some came from a far distance.
c) There wasn’t that desire to learn what Jesus desired to teach.
d) They did not display that kind of interest noted among those who are diligent seekers of the knowledge of God (Cf. Proverbs 2:1-4).

2. The Pivotal issue

The pivotal issue lay in this statement of Jesus. “He who has ears to hear, let him hear” (Cf. Mark 4:9).

3. The Disciples

a) They politely waited for the multitudes to disappear from the seashore. Only when they were quite alone did they ask Jesus to explain what He meant
b) They showed that they had ears that were eager to learn more. They were convinced that there were deep truths hidden in the simple parable of The Sower. In that they sought further, they received a word of commendation!
